Who we are
The Community Foodbank - Skye and Lochalsh is an independent voluntary organisation. The demand for food has increased over the years and in fact in 2018 there was a 50% increase in the supply of food bags by our organisation. We are run entirely by volunteers with each having a specific part to play.
Food is collected from several drop-off points in Skye and stored in a local church. We have collection points in Uig, Waternish, Staffin, our local Co-operative, chemist, health food shop and hairdressers in Portree. We collect food donations from local churches and other points in more outlying communities.
South Skye Distribution
Skye Food Bank has a team which operates in south Skye. Donations can be made in the Co-ops in Kyle and Broadford and at An Crubh in Sleat.
There is also a distribution point for south Skye and Lochalsh located in Broadford.
South Skye outreach foodbanks can be reached at An Crubh, The Food Shed in Ardvasar, The Phood Box in Breakish and the Medical centre in Lochcarron. The Community Fridge in Broadford is open to all to access food support and/or help eliminate food waste Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.

Work with us to make a difference
The Food Bank is run entirely by volunteers with each having a specific part to play. Volunteers, who are usually organised in pairs, cover the jobs of collection of food donations, unpacking and sorting food, making up bags for distribution and delivery to CAB and to statutory and voluntary welfare agencies. We unpack food donations and date check them.

Who we work with
Our partnership organisations
The introduction of Universal Credit is evidently having a negative impact and further roll out in 2019 will inevitably exacerbate the situation. Recipients of food include individuals and families on low (or no) incomes, people with mental and physical health issues, young carers and disabled people. We work with a number of organisations in partnership to make sure our food reaches those most in need. We have a working relationship with the following organisations:
Social Work (Portree and Kyle)
Welfare Rights
UHI college
Viewfield Garden Collective
Community Nurses
Community Psychiatric Nurses
Midwives
Health Visitors
Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association
Women’s Aid
Rag Tag Broadford
Health Improvement Advisor
